Today marks a special anniversary in Phi Mu Fraternity history. ❤️

On June 5, 1922, the first Phi Mu Healthmobile began serving children and families in Chatham County, Georgia.

What many sisters may not know is that this groundbreaking project has an Indianapolis connection. Margaret Eidson (Κappa), then Chairman of Phi Mu's Philanthropic Board, turned her vision into reality less than a year after it was approved at the 1921 Convention. She contracted an Indianapolis firm to build the specially designed truck and closely oversaw its construction.

The first Healthmobile cost $4,120 and featured a fully equipped doctor's office with running water and electric lights. Its mission was simple but powerful: improve child welfare through free medical care and health education.

The Healthmobile provided prenatal consultations, infant and child examinations, immunizations, and educational programs for families. In its first year alone, it visited 35 Georgia counties. Staff examined 6,000 to 8,000 children annually and reached more than 25,000 people through health education programs.

At a time when only five states reported declines in infant mortality, Georgia was one of them, and the Healthmobile was widely credited with helping make that possible.

Phi Mu continued supporting the program for nearly 20 years, funding upgrades and new equipment until changes in state funding policies ended our direct involvement in 1941.

Today, we celebrate the vision of Margaret Eidson and the sisters whose commitment to service helped improve the lives of thousands of children and families.

Steadfast in sisterhood. Dedicated to service. Making a difference for generations.
