Sad to learn over a year later that an old client and friend of mine in Pasadena had passed away. Lourinda Bray was a giant in the Carousel Restoration world and had the biggest heart for homeless animals whom many she eventually adopted. I got to spend a couple days with her at her studio priming carousel horses as part of their restoration.

Here’s a link to her beautiful home overlooking the Rose Bowl. I painted both the interior and exterior in 1999 - 2000 before moving to Indianapolis.

This week, our unofficial west coast correspondent, @alexander.lerner visited this stunning, Tudor revival that — besides a charmingly anachronistic mid-century kitchen — has been almost untouched since it was built in 1930s. As is always the case, I have many (many, many) favorite parts — the Tudor-style woodwork; that dreamy sunroom, the hand-painted mural in the dining room — but at the top of my list are the bathrooms, which have some of the most stunning, art-deco tilework I’ve ever seen.
