“Our Story Isn’t Interesting Because We Met on an App”
A lot of couples think their story is boring because they met on a dating app.
But your love story doesn’t start and end with how you met.
That’s just the introduction.
Your story is:
• how you fell in love
• why you chose each other
• what you had to overcome to get there
• and who you had to become individually before you were even ready for that relationship
Even the decision to download the app has a story behind it—what you were searching for, what you were healing from, what you had been through.
Some of the most meaningful love stories don’t happen in the first match or the first date…
They unfold in month 3, month 6, year 2—when things get real, when challenges come, when love becomes a choice.
Your story isn’t “we met on an app.”
Your story is everything that happened after.
“You’re not a wedding videographer.”
That’s what someone told me in 2018.
I had just started trying to break into the wedding industry.
I found a company hiring videographers and thought, this is my shot.
I wanted experience.
I wanted to learn.
I just wanted a foot in the door.
I went through the interview…
and afterward, they followed up and said:
They could tell I was passionate.
They could tell I was a good videographer.
But…
“I don’t think you’re a wedding videographer.”
So they didn’t hire me.
—
Fast forward to today.
I’ve filmed over 200 weddings.
I’ve been blessed to build a six-figure business doing this since 2021.
I’ve had the opportunity to travel across the country—and even the world—capturing stories in some of the most beautiful places.
I’ve:
- built a brand
- written a book on wedding films and storytelling
- gone full-time
- and now get to coach and mentor other filmmakers
And honestly…
I feel like I’m just getting started.
—
But here’s the part that’s funny.
Looking back… in a way, he was kind of right.
Because what I do has never just been about weddings.
I don’t see myself as just a “wedding videographer.”
I’m a storyteller.
- A documentary filmmaker who happens to work in the wedding space.
I tell stories about:
- people
- families
- love
- legacy
So yeah…
He was wrong.
But he also wasn’t completely right either.
—
And that’s the point.
Don’t let someone else’s limited perspective define what you’re capable of.
If God has given you a desire—
a vision, a direction, a calling—
He will meet you in it.
No person can block what He’s already set in motion.
