Still on cloud 9 after this weekend. I’ve been bowhunting since I was 14 years old, I’m 27 now. I consider myself to be picky, told myself that I only wanted to harvest mature deer and over the years of countless hours spent in the woods bowhunting, passing up deer that most would consider trophy’s, I decided to shoot this buck and people may ask me why? Why shoot a 2 and a half year old buck after passing up other bucks that were larger? Simply because it was time to get the chip off of my shoulder. Don’t get me wrong I would’ve loved for it to be a 160 class 10 pointer like the one we’ve had on trail camera all year long. But it was time. I’ve seen over 150 deer this season. Having my girlfriend with me who has never even thought about stepping in the woods was sitting in the stand with me all day long with a smile on her face just for getting to enjoy for the first time something that I started to forget to enjoy because I had become so obsessed with chasing antlers. And that’s what I learned this weekend. It’s not always about what he scores, if he’s going to make the Pope and Young club or Boone and Crockett. it’s about the memories made for this short time here on earth, enjoying gods country and chasing some of the toughest most elusive animals on the planet. Now it’s time to recharge the batteries, and get the gear ready to chase big toms in the spring. It’s a wrap on the 2020 deer season
