We exist to stand in the gap with youth to realize a vision to turn the world outward. This begs the question: Why do we continue to silo ourselves?

Our Story

Founded in 2010 by Derrin Slack, after he had a life-changing experience in Botswana, Africa, our mission is to engage youth in public service that educates, delights, and inspires the youth and those they serve.

Since 2010, ProAct has been helping urban youth build solid foundations based on relationships and service to help address poverty and education. We had an innovative idea: empower youth. Give them the tools and mentorship to give their service to the community. In doing so, students gain confidence and build their abilities. But an idea is only as good as its ex*****on. Corporate citizens and community leaders are the heartbeat of ProAct. These are the civil-minded individuals who create opportunities for our youth to prosper. They are the mentors who encourage ProAct’s students to shine. They are today’s leaders giving guidance to tomorrow’s future.

All of ProAct’s service-learning programs are conducted in a social justice context to help participants gain skills to be more empathetic and tolerant of others by building transformational relationships. We conduct over 200 service projects each year and each project is unique, covering a different socioeconomic issue or solution in a different neighborhood. Students benefit from being immersed in diverse communities and challenged with new problems.

It’s not a one-sided deal though, the communities benefit from our students’ efforts and service with evident changes from ongoing community projects.
