Last week we registered 12 new clients for our programs. And we had the delight in meeting some adorable pups! First we had an sweet lil puppy that gave everyone puppy kisses. Then we had a duo of adorable pitties come in, Buddy and Cinnamon! While we do not require pets to attend new client registration, it always makes our day. 💚

Our new client registration is on Thursdays from 1pm - 6pm, arrival for check-in by 5pm*.

To review what to bring for registration, check out this link: https://fidoindy.org/who-we-serve/

*Please note that we reserve the right to close the registration line early due to high volume or extenuating circumstances.

Dog #215

We took Baxter to IndyHumane last week for adoption. He is a sweet, playful 6 month old pup. Likely a mix between a boxer and an Australian shepherd based upon his appearance. His family was threatened with eviction and they needed a quick place for Baxter to go and be safe. We can't turn these dogs away when they have no other options. So we cared for Baxter short-term at our warehouse because he and our warehouse cats could coexist peacefully. We aren't a shelter, but we can usually figure out a way to provide a stop-gap safe haven until we can get these dogs into a shelter.

Again and again, Indyhumane is that shelter that we can reach out to and they come through for us. Maybe not immediately. It might be a few days or a couple of months, but they always take the dog. Baxter is the 215th dog in dire straits that Indyhumane has taken in from us in the past year and a half. We are so grateful for this partnership that provides a new lease on life for so many dogs.

Yesterday was a crazy long, busy, productive day.

We started our day yesterday at 5:45 am by Brett and Darcie picking up 9 dogs from 7 different homes and transporting them to Lebanon Veterinary Clinic for spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchips.

Then Brett, Lynn, and Krista headed out at 10:00 am for two fence builds.

Nick and Tori also headed out at that time for outreach home visits for the next several hours.

Next, Dr Baker arrived at 10:30 am and treated the dog Buggz here in our parking lot. Buggz had been attacked and bitten multiple times by a loose dog. Buggz was contained on a leash at the time of the attack. Buggz lives with Ashley, her husband, and a cat in their truck. Then Heidi and Dr Baker headed out for veterinary home visits throughout the afternoon.

Then Brett, Dawn with Indy Neighborhood Cats, Dee, and Laura, staffed new client registration here at the warehouse from 1 to 6 pm, serving 12 new clients and their collective dogs and cats.

Finally, Genevieve and Darcie headed back to Lebanon around 2:30 pm to pick up the 9 dogs and return them all back home after spay/neuter. One of the dogs had an unexpected complication likely due to a genetic bleeding disorder and Dr Falcone spent almost two extra hours providing the pooch expert care in order to safely send him back home. Our day finally ended at 8 pm last night after all the pups had been returned back home.

When you support FIDO Indy with your financial gifts, this is the nitty-gritty, boots on the ground work you are supporting. When the work needs done, we figure out how to get it done. And we cannot do this work without the community's partnership and support. For that, we are grateful.

Meet Jasper!

He is one of the many pups we've gotten to help via our programs. Today our case managers went out to drop off some dog food and supplies. Jasper has been fighting seasonal allergies that our volunteer vet has been keeping an eye on so we also checked him out to make sure his allergies were still under control.

Of course, Jasper was extremely happy to see us stop by and covered us in slobbery puppy kisses. Absolutely made our day to see him and his mom doing well!

Meet Sasha and Zeus!

This was a fence build that our team had to get creative with. Sasha and Zeus are just two of the dogs in the home. Some of the pups don't always get along with each other. So with this build we built two kennels with space in-between that we refer to as a no-dog land. This makes it so that the dogs can be safely let outside for playtime and potty breaks.

And as you may have noticed, Sasha has quite the jump on her. So one of the kennels we pre-emptively added a ceiling to to ensure that she won't be able to jump or climb her way out.
