Q: What's the most important aspect in learning photography?

A: Like most, I initially felt that in order for me to learn photography I needed to have expensive equipment. While I wouldn't trade my DSLR in for anything, as long as you have optimal lighting and an operating camera an artist can achieve anything. I have seen phenomenal photos taken with Polaroids, and even iPhones. So don't neglect your lighting techniques they are crucial. Also, be adventurous and get off the automatic setting. Try out that aperture and shutter priority settings on your DSLR. Then eventually move to all manual. I have seen far too many people spend thousands of dollars on a DSLR and just use it in auto mode. I have to ask myself, what's the point in owning such expensive equipment if you don't get the best use out of it?
