Let us learn to love again
Not hate
For hatred gets us
Nowhere we haven’t been
And do not wish to go again
Let us learn to love again
Not hate
For how could any elected official
Teach us to hate
As in discriminate
And it not lead to tragedy
We have been down this road
Countless times before
And we will undoubtedly
Cross this path again
Stepping feet first into
Old streams of thought
And consciousness
But that does not mean
We will ever take hatred
Into our hearts
And learn to live in a Christian nation
As if that is what “under God” ever meant
Nor ever will mean
We are so deeply offended
By this embrace of hatred
Unashamed and unassuming
That all we can do
Is pick our jaws up off the ground
And keep marching up that mountain.
For we still believe we need to see its summit.
