Library Connect is excited to share the news of 2026 Shelf Indulgence Reading Challenge! Each month we will be highlighting an author's birthday and encourage readers to discover- or rediscover- their stories.

January we are celebrating Zora Neale Hurston, who wrote the influential novel 'Their Eyes Were Watching God'.
"Hurston’s novels, short stories, and plays often depicted African American life in the South. Her work in anthropology examined black folklore. Hurston influenced many writers, forever cementing her place in history as one of the foremost female writers of the 20th century." (Chicago- Norwood, Arlisha. "Zora Hurston." National Women's History Museum. 2017. www.womenshistory.org/education-resources/biographies/zora-hurston.)
