We’ve been quiet here for a long time.

If you’ve noticed the silence from Jacoby’s Shield over the last several months, you’re not imagining it.

Like many of you, we’ve been inside our own waves of grief… figuring out how to keep breathing, parenting, working, and honoring our child while carrying a love that never ends and a pain that never fully goes away.

In that quiet, something very important has been taking shape.
Over the past months, we’ve been working on words and practices for something we kept feeling but couldn’t name:
how grief after losing a child doesn’t just “hurt”… it makes your whole brain feel jammed, cramped, and overloaded.

You can’t think straight.
You forget things.
Simple tasks feel impossible.

You feel guilty for the moments you’re okay, and terrified of the moments you’re not.
We started calling this experience “GriefBrain.”

And from our own journey, our work with other bereaved parents, and trauma‑informed tools, we created something we’re finally ready to share:

The Grief FLOW Method

…a gentle, guided way to help “uncramp” your grief brain so your thoughts, memories, and emotions can move, instead of crashing into each other all day.

For the first time ever, we’re opening a small, 4‑week online Grief FLOW Coaching Group for parents who have lost a child.

We’ll walk through this together in a tiny, guided group, using the Grief FLOW Method to create more space inside your grief, stay connected to your child’s love, and begin rebuilding a life that honors them… without ever “getting over” them.

We’ll share all the details very soon, but we wanted to come back here honestly first and tell you where we’ve been and what has been quietly growing in the background.

If you’re reading this and you feel something stir in you when you hear “GriefBrain” or “Grief FLOW”…

comment “FLOW” below or send us a message, and we’ll make sure you’re the first to get the details and an invite into this very first group.

You are not alone in this. Even when it has felt that way.

JACOBY’S SHIELD

Jacoby’s Shield is a public non-profit healing organization that inspires and empowers the hearts of bereaved parents and siblings.

Jacoby’s Shield accomplishes its mission primarily through hosting family bereavement camps. The camps combine traditional fun camp activities with grief education and emotional support, facilitated by grief professionals and trained volunteers. These camps will be an opportunity for the entire family to remember and honor their loved one, to grieve together outside of the funeral in a relaxed, safe and supportive setting. Families will be allowed to express emotions, share their grief, connect with others and learn positive coping skills.

Jacoby’s Shield was born from a tragic event. Co-founders Stuart and Xaviera Latta lost their firstborn son Jacoby in 2014 from injuries he received while playing on a playground. But the Lattas do not want Jacoby’s life to end in tragedy. Later that year, Jacoby was posthumously called an Avenger by Marvel Comics. At three years, one month and two days, he is the youngest Avenger ever! He is the reason we are standing behind the Shield. Please get behind Shield, Jacoby’s Shield.
