Brody Quinn is 7 today! My middle babe, our first sun, monkey bar swinging, professional debater, beat boxing, strong willed, April fools baby.

Dropping some of last weeks statements for our memory bank...

B: Mom what’s a hippie?
M: a hippie?
B: Yea, Dad said you’re a hippie

B: when you and dad get old and die they’ll probably only be Tesla trucks around

I am deeply aware of the energy in me and around me. I am sensitive, empathetic and a feeler. I have grown to appreciate all of those parts of me, instead of denying them I uplift them, I highlight them and I follow them. It is these parts of me that connect me to Self, to God, to You.
Because of these I also am grieving. I feel deeply hurt.
We are living in a world where we constantly witness the pain we inflict on each other.
Today Brody asked me what a hate crime is? And why people on the news talk about the color of people’s skin the way they do?

My heart hurt answering these questions honestly to my 6 year old. And I will continue to talk about this in my house with my kids daily so they know better. Because when we know better we do better.

Change begins in our own homes. It’s taken 6 years for my husband and I to talk about these issues peacefully. We have different outlooks on many things socially, politically, but when it comes to raising conscious compassionate kids we’re aligned. Our kids will be raised understanding that even their own parents with many differences can be respectful, see each other’s perspectives and love each other very much. It doesn’t always look pretty but we do it anyways.

My prayer is that we do the work as individuals that we must do to evolve as a collective so that the future generations can experience peace, harmony and forgiveness.
