Our Story

Brighter Tomorrows was founded in 1989 as a cooperative effort between the Grand Prairie City Council, Grand Prairie Police Department, Grand Prairie Human Services Coalition, and a group of concerned citizens. We are a well thought out program with a staff that has a passion for assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Over the years, Brighter Tomorrows has sheltered an increasing number of clients from throughout the metroplex. We see clients not only from Dallas and Tarrant counties, but also those fleeing abusive situations in other cities in Texas and around the country. The more we reach out, the more we are aware that there is still work to be done. Domestic and sexual violence knows no economic, cultural or educational boundaries. To combat this epidemic problem, Brighter Tomorrows serves individuals regardless of age, race, ethnic origin, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or legal status.

Brighter Tomorrows has two emergency safe shelters in Grand Prairie, Texas and Irving, Texas at undisclosed locations. Clients in our shelters are provided with meals, clothing, counseling, support groups, case management, advocacy, safety planning, and referrals as needed. Brighter Tomorrows also offers counseling for adults and children in the community affected by domestic violence or sexual violence. We operate two thrift stores in Desoto and Grand Prairie. All services are free, confidential, and provided in English or Spanish. Our 24-hour hotline is available 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
