Saturday, Manresa. Did our longest walk and arrived at the place where Ignatius had his great illumination, receiving the clarity about what it meant to be a pilgrim.

Thursday in Luceni, where legend says that Ignatius used his mule to help him decide the way he should go. Pictured here are the sculpture of that “discernment” moment, a not so friendly mule, and some stork nests.

In these hills, Ignatius traveled to pray before this very image of Our Lady of Arantzazu. The shrine is made to look like the thorn bush where the image was found in 1468. Arantzazu means “you, among the thorns” in Basque.

Injured by a cannonball during a battle, Ignatius is forced to return home and recover. No other reading material was available but the life of Christ and lives of the saints. It was the turning point for him. What you read matters!
