Harriet Tubman has been posthumously awarded the rank of brigadier general in the Maryland National Guard—an honor that comes 91 years after her passing. After escaping slavery in 1849, Tubman became renowned for leading others to freedom on the Underground Railroad and was the first woman to lead an American military operation during wartime. Her legacy as a scout, spy, and freedom fighter in the Civil War is now further cemented with this historic recognition.

Folks who get mad about other folks wanting and pursuing justice are usually concerned about things like vengeance, turn about/fair play, punishment for previous offenses. Here’s the thing, though, that is not what the pursuit of justice is about…but since you’re already thinking about it may I ask you a question…?
What did you do (or know about someone doing/saying, etc.) that is so bad that you’re scared someone wants to do to you what was done to them?
I’m asking because your rage, brought about through the exhaustion caused by retributive-leaning fear doesn’t otherwise make sense to me. That rage-driven supremacy has causal relationships on both sides of it. Do you see that?

It makes me sad and angry. I feel one or the other almost all the time, and I know I am not alone.
