Community Quilting Center

Long before Peggy Dunlop dreamed of the Community Quiltmaking Center she was creating clothing and studying textiles as a student at Cornell, in what would become the College Human Ecology. How wonderful that after all of these years the gift of her red dress has turned the well-deserved spotlight on her life. ❤

Wow! We've reached 129 Appreciation Potholders! What an outpouring from our sewing and quilting community! With more donations from Quilters Corner, Ithaca, New York customers, and the latest made at weekend potholder making parties at CQC at ReUse MegaCenter, It took three tables to display all of the potholders as Tompkins County Quilters Guild members added their beautiful little treasures to the collection on Tuesday! The Appreciation Potholders were created to honor the Friendship Donations Network and their 35th Anniversary of rescuing food and reducing hunger since 1988!

The Appreciation Potholders will hang and decorate FDN's 35th Anniversary Celebration this evening Ithaca Farmers Market, and then will be given as keepsakes to appreciate FDN's volunteers and supporters at the event.

While the primary focus of the new Community Quilting Center is to "open the door to quiltmaking for all, regardless of personal resources," we are also committed to use Peggy Dunlop and others fabric donations to "inspire and support quiltmaking for community good." The FDN Appreciation Potholders are a great example of how those two missions come together so beautifully with many beginners inspired to do their first patchwork to make a potholder.
