The Gratiot County Herald is seeking reliable freelance community correspondents to help provide regular coverage across the area.

A correspondent will be assigned a geographic beat and expected to produce at least one article a week from that location. The work includes monitoring schedules and agendas, attending public meetings, recognizing newsworthy developments and submitting accurate copy by deadline.

The beat will include school boards, city/village councils and township boards within the assigned community. Writers also will follow public safety activity, local events and other developments.

Open locations include Alma, Ashley, Breckenridge, Ithaca, Perrinton, St. Louis and surrounding townships. Applicants may take on one or more areas based on availability.

Strong news judgment, accurate note-taking, clean writing and reliability are essential. Prior reporting experience is preferred, but applicants with strong writing skills and knowledge of their community will be considered.

The work is paid. Those interested should email [email protected] with a brief introduction, the location they can cover and any relevant experience or writing samples.
