Mississippi Conference Disaster Response

On top of all the rain we have already had, we have the first named storm of the season heading toward our already saturated ground - Tropical Storm Arthur.

We are already planning to deliver cleaning buckets to Trinity Church in Picayune on Monday, June 22nd (hopefully it will have quit raining). If you need help, or you become aware of any of you neighbors who need help, please let us know.

Also, our next Gulf Pines District Disaster Response Team meeting is next Thursday, June 25, at Camp Faith. We'll gather at 4 p.m. and share a meal around 6 p.m. Please let us know if you are coming so that we can plan for food.

On this day 20 years ago Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In the following days pickups loaded with chainsaws and tarps, church vans with cases of water and sack lunches, college students with rakes and work gloves, were headed south on Hwy 49 joined by hundreds of power company trucks. Our first look at our beloved costal communities was heartbreaking. We said a prayer, rolled up our sleeves, and got to work. In the days, weeks, months, years following that tragic day we slowly saw hope returning. While we’ll never forget the lives lost or the grief of loosing everything that you owned, we are forever grateful for the thousands and thousands of volunteers who made recovery possible.
