Payton's Perspective

Before life with CRPS, I measured my life by what my body could do.

How far I could hike.
How hard I could ski.
How much I could pack into a day of social activities, work and the chaos of life.

When the deeepest level of pain entered my life after my ski accident in 2021 , I thought I had lost the version of myself I loved most. I thought I had lost myself altogether.

For a long time, I grieved her. And truthfully there’s days I really really miss her.

But somewhere in that grief, something completely unexpected happened.

I started painting differently.
Listening differently.
Living differently.

And most importantly, Feeling deeper than I ever have.

The mountains were still beautiful.
Wonder was still everywhere.
And little by little, I realized that who I was had never disappeared.

She was simply becoming someone new.

You get to become who you’re meant to be next.
