Empathy, Objectification & Gender Based Violence by Jasmine Pabla
In many cases of , victims are blamed for their assault by critics who claim they were “asking for it” or “brought it upon themselves.” Society points the finger at the victim’s clothes, rather than the assaulter. Women are blamed for being objectified. Interestingly, advertisements, movies, television shows, and musical artists use this objectification to sell their product.
When individuals are objectified, they are seen as less moral, less intelligent, less human and given less empathy. When an individual is seen as less human, the likelihood of committing violent acts against them increases – they become part of an outgroup. For example, during wartime, violence is justified because enemy countries are considered “the other”.

Have you got your tickets....!!! https://bit.ly/Tributetowomenandgirls
We are changing the narrative by showcasing the difference between a combative sport with rules and non-sensical violence. In tribute to women and girls, participating boxers have taken the TRC Pledge to End Gender Based Violence where they live. The TRC pledge breaks the silence around GBV and grows commitment to taking action to end GBV. Our boxers will stand as influencers on the day, and their pledges will be played before they enter the ring. TRC Founder, Khalil Osiris Khalil Osiris says, "The fact is, accountability in the fight to end GBV lies primarily with men. Events like these give us the opportunity to raise awareness about the impact of toxic masculinity and, hopefully, will encourage more men and young boys to take the TRC Pledge to end the violence against women and girls where they live."
We have 9 exciting fights lined up as well as a performance by popular artist, Tamar Dey. Our guest Judges include current ABU and Boxing South Africa Heavy Weight Title Holder, Chris Thompson and award-winning Actress, Zikhona Bali.
