Alumni & Friends lifetime member, Bruce Twomley, speaks on his experience as an attorney for the 1976 high-profile case, Tobeluk v. Lind, more popularly known as the Molly Ho**ch case. It stands as the most significant lawsuit in Alaska history to reverse assimilation policy over Alaska Natives.

Bruce defended high school students Molly Ho**ch from the Yukon River village of Emmonak, and Anna Tobeluk, from the village of Nunapitchuk, who were suing the State of Alaska on behalf of 2,667 Alaska Native secondary school age children. They argued Alaska was failing to provide local high schools in predominantly Alaska Native villages. Sending rural students out of their home communities impacted thousands of Alaska Native students and disrupted family and village life. Tobleluk and Ho**ch won the case granting the right for Alaska Native children in 126 villages to attend secondary school in their home communities.
