Today is International Literacy Day, and programs are proud to offer literacy development services to keiki, ʻōpio, and caregivers or adults alike. Our multi-generational education programs often include culturally relevant and engaging books like this one by local artist, P***y Aloha! Some of the services that our education programs connect caregivers and adults with include GED completion opportunities as well as training through partner organizations like Read to Me International to promote supportive reading practices for everyone in the household.

UNESCO declared Sep. 8 as International Literacy Day since 1967 to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society.

We are honored to celebrate this day with community partners to continue forward motioning literacy opportunities to all of our Hawaiʻi communities.
