We have had so much fun eating around the world the last two weeks! We learned about 10 different countries, listened to their language, danced to their songs and ate food inspired by them. The kids even made baklava!

When a child's fear center, the amygdala, is activated a child goes into a state of self preservation--they try to protect themselves. This can cause a child to: lash out, run away and hide, shut down entirely, freeze, cry, yell, or lash out physically. These are hardwired responses for protection. To bring them out of this response, a child needs safety (emotional and physical), proximity, predictability, and empathy-- not punishment (which can escalate or cause the child to numb out). Discipline means to teach, but we cannot teach a child who is in a state of fear.
