We are a group of young adults with Disabilities from Michigan. We want to create a Disability Awareness and Education (DA&E) Day holiday in Michigan to be celebrated annually on the third Friday in October. We want people to use this day to honor, celebrate, educate, and bring awareness to Disability and its history. Disability is more common than most people realize with 20% of Americans and 26% of American adults having a Disability, and 80% of Disabilities are non-visible. Some examples of non-visible Disabilities are Diabetes, Epilepsy, Autism, Down Syndrome, Learning Disabilities, Developmental Disabilities, Cognitive Disabilities, and Psychiatric Disabilities. Thank you for your time and acceptance.
Note: The Americans with Disabilities Act defines a Disability as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.
