Such a great reminder after a challenging week!! 🧠🌪️

🌿 The Brilliance of Dysregulation 🌿

A dysregulated brain cannot:
❌ Answer questions
❌ Describe a feeling
❌ Explain what happened
❌ Say sorry
❌ Follow directions
❌ Share
❌ Play well
❌ Settle down

But… what if we stopped seeing dysregulation as "bad" and instead as brilliant?

All behavior is communication. It’s a child’s way of expressing what they cannot say. When we judge certain behaviors as “good” or “bad,” we miss the deeper wisdom at play. Our autonomic nervous system is designed to respond to challenges—dysregulation is part of that design, not a flaw.

Instead of asking, “Why is this child acting out?” let’s ask:
🔹 What is this behavior trying to accomplish?
🔹 How is this dysregulation serving the child?
🔹 How is the nervous system working to find safety and connection?

When we shift our perspective, we move from frustration to curiosity. We see the brilliance in the behavior. And in that shift, we find the most powerful response of all:

✨ Wow. ✨

Yes! We need to shift from “too young to remember” “too little to understand” to how have these early experiences shaped and wired me?

Yes! Another opportunity to heal and move forward! 🤍

For the child, having their parent acknowledge their pain sends a powerful message: that their emotions are seen, heard, and respected. It helps to affirm their sense of self-worth and fosters a sense of safety in expressing their emotions openly.

This acknowledgment also lays the foundation for healing and rebuilding trust within the parent-child relationship. It allows the child to feel understood and supported, which are essential elements in processing and integrating past hurts into their present life. Ultimately, by acknowledging their child's emotional pain without judgment or defensiveness, parents create a space where healing and emotional growth can flourish.
