"Let’s all try to help urban farms at any level. Simple solutions are a great start. You can make a budget of what to spend at the farmers market this weekend.

Choose local products if they are available at your supermarket. Google the nearest urban farmer who uses compost to decrease their fertilizer costs and keep food scraps out of landfills."

Alumni leadership in action! 📢🌱

We love seeing our Green Core Training graduates lead local environmental action. GCT alum Damon Patterson has spearheaded a brand-new workforce development and conservation stewardship pilot program that launched last week!

To kick things off, a team of Green Core graduates recently restored two acres in the Historic Dunbar District, Kansas City’s first African American suburb. The crew made a tangible impact by picking up trash, removing invasive species, and planting natives.

That hands-on work is exactly what the new Community Conservation Stewardship Program is all about. Damon has brought together an amazing collaboration—including Green Core Training, Missouri Stream Team #7231, and the Heart of the City Dunbar Neighborhood Association—to give volunteers real-world restoration experience while directly lifting up our local natural areas and neighborhoods.

🗓 When: Every Wednesday evening, now through October.
🙌 Who: Open to any community member ready to make a local impact.

Spaces for this pilot are limited! Send us a DM or comment below to get all the details on how to join Damon's team.
