Health Education Specialist Job Openning

Description: Full time Health Education Specialist

Requirements: Possession of Bachelor of Degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion or other related field, Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certificate preferred.

Function
Under general direction of Director of Health Promotion & Chronic Disease Prevention candidate will be expected to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate health education programs for topics including, but not limited to chronic disease prevention and communications. Ability to apply population-based and social marketing principles and environmental systems change concepts to programming as necessary. Some early morning, evening, and weekend assignments may be required.

Job Duties
1. Conduct health education, health promotion, and public awareness activities.
2. Assist in the implementation of Health District objectives.
3. Ability to work with and interact effectively with partnering individuals and agencies in the community at-large.

4. Ability to work with partners to implement environmental system changes to improve nutrition and physical activity.

5. Capacity to determine and execute appropriate methods for conveying ideas to individuals and groups.

6. Assist with communication and public information duties by preparing and maintaining newsletters, articles, media releases, presentations, social media/website posts, and educational materials using appropriate software and community outreach methods.

7. Proficient in developing messages and designing printed materials.

8. Respond to emergencies when requested.

9. Represent the agency in community programs and at professional meetings within the community.

10. Serves as a resource to staff in regards to educational and health promotion matters.

11. Other duties as assigned.

Major Work Characteristics
Excellent writing skills required. Knowledge of health education methods, environmental system change practices, marketing; social media; group process, and facilitation. Ability to define problems; collect data; engage groups and individuals; build alliances among community members willing to work together to improve and promote healthy lifestyles and work toward eliminating health inequities; communicate in written and oral form; prepare concise and accurate reports; deal with many variables and determine specific actions; handle sensitive inquiries from officials and general public.
