❤️🦇 Meet Gorda, affectionately known around here as our little vampire cat. 🦇❤️

At 16 years old, Gorda is one of the true legends of the Upper Keys Humane Society.

She arrived here as a tiny kitten and, somehow, never got the opportunity that so many others did. While countless cats came and went, finding families and forever homes, Gorda remained. Not because she wasn’t worthy. Not because she wasn’t lovable. Life just had a different journey planned for her.

Because we are a no-kill shelter, Gorda has spent her entire life surrounded by people who cared for her, fed her, loved her, and watched her grow from a mischievous kitten into the feisty little old lady she is today.

Sixteen years is a long time. It’s a lifetime of naps in sunny spots, countless meals, familiar faces, and a shelter that became her home. While she may not always be in the mood for company, those who know Gorda know that beneath her sassy exterior is a sweet soul who enjoys gentle pets on her own terms and has a special place in all of our hearts.

These photos were taken during one of her favorite activities—napping, of course. At her age, she’s earned every peaceful snooze she wants.

Gorda’s story is bittersweet. It reminds us that not every animal’s journey looks the same. Some find families quickly. Some wait years. And some, like Gorda, spend their lives growing old with us.

We wish every animal could experience a home of their own, but we are grateful that Gorda has always known safety, care, and love. She has been part of our family for 16 years, and we couldn’t imagine this shelter without her.

So today, we’re celebrating our little vampire cat—the tiny kitten who grew up here, the senior lady who still keeps us on our toes, and the beloved resident who has left paw prints on the hearts of everyone she’s met.

Two new kittens have just entered the cat café! Tiny, curious, and still taking everything in, they’re adjusting to their new surroundings one sniff and step at a time. A little shy at first, but already showing interest in toys, treats, and all the cozy spots around them. We can’t wait to watch their personalities blossom as they settle in.
