From what I’ve seen, gentle parenting was good at one thing. Helping us to acknowledge and recognize emotions. But I haven’t seen it create a generation or resilient kids. I’ve been working with kids for 28 years. And over the last five years, I’ve seen a shift and how kids handle hard things. And that simply quit. Parents will say oh my kid just doesn’t feel like it anymore… that’s not parenting. That’s convenience. The truth is if the parents want something and they know it’s good for their kids they will hold a line. Our kids mental faculties don’t development until they are in their mid 20s. At 18 they can make the choice to smoke. At 21 they can choose to get a drink. At 25 they can finally rent a car. You’re telling me a seven-year-old knows what they want? That is seven-year-old knows what’s best for them? Tough choices now need to simple choices later.
