Contact: Louis Raymond — [email protected] — 305-767-3593

Keys Shakespeare Festival is holding open auditions for both union and non-union talent for its 2023 productions of “Romeo & Juliet,” “Shakespeare Dames: Women of Wit and Will,” and a new Bard-infused comic entertainment, TBA. Open auditions for all three productions will be held at Williams Hall (729 Fleming Street, Key West) on Thursday, November 3rd 2022, from 5-8 PM; Friday, November 4th from 5-8 PM; and Saturday, Nov 12th from 10 AM-2 PM. All positions are salaried.
“Romeo & Juliet” (Dir: Richard Ericson; Fights: TBA) Performances: April 18-30, 2023; 90-minute matinee and evening performances outdoors at the West Martello Tower, Key West. Rehearsals: Tuesday, March 14-Tuesday April 18, schedule TBA. Stage combat experience preferred, athleticism a must. This is a high-activity production; actors with vocal and physical stamina as well as a talent for performing classic plays encouraged.

All roles in “Romeo & Juliet” are available. Also seeking low comics, clowns, circus performers, gymnasts, and musicians. Auditioners should memorize a 1-2 minute monologue from the play, and be prepared to perform it, off-book.
“Shakespeare Dames: Women of Wit & Will” (Director: Richard Ericson) A 60-minute spoken concert of the wild and wondrous women of the Shakespeare canon: crazy-funny and heart-achingly sensual, these characters remind us why the Bard and his manuscripts are “for all time.”

Performances: Thursday and Friday Evening February 23rd and 24th. Performance venue TBA. Evening Rehearsals: Wednesday February 15—Wednesday February 22, 2023. All roles in “Shakespeare Dames” are available. Seeking four women of all types and ages; cross-gender casting possible. Auditioners should bring both short comic and dramatic monologues of Shakespeare’s women; no memorization necessary, but total familiarity with the pieces recommended.
“The Bard’s Comedy” (Director: TBA) Seeking fabulous, hysterical improv talents who have a consuming passion for the works of Will Shakespeare. All ages, sizes, and ethnicities welcome—totally cool (perhaps preferred) if English is a second language. Circus and musical skills a plus. Must know how to have fun, Key West style.
