Mangroves are a miracle plant protecting our shorelines, building islands and teaming with life. Let's explore the ones around Key WestπŸ™πŸ¦‘πŸ¦πŸ¦€πŸ‘πŸ πŸŸπŸ¬πŸ¦ˆπŸšπŸŒ΄πŸŒž

We interrupt your scroll to bring you some hope.

πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ This beautiful photo captures a father and son sharing a joyful moment over a basket brimming with freshly caught crabs at Bakhawan Eco-Park in Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines.

Once a polluted shoreline, this area has been transformed into a thriving 220-hectare mangrove forest. Today, it protects against climate threats and sustains local livelihoods.

✨ This is nature’s generosity. And the legacy we want to pass on.

⚠️ More than half of the world's mangrove ecosystems could collapse by 2050. Nearly 20% are already at severe risk of collapse right now.

The culprits? Deforestation, development, pollution, and increasingly, climate change. Sea-level rise and extreme storms are already threatening a third of all ecosystems assessed.

The good news? We know what to do. Protecting existing mangroves, restoring what we've lost, maintaining sediment flows, and giving mangroves room to expand inland can build resilience and help these blue forests survive.

While mangroves serve as vital nurseries for many juvenile species, many animals actually spend their entire adult lives in mangrove habitats.

🌳 Above the waterline, the tree canopy and shoreline provide shelter, feeding, and nesting sites for various creatures from wild cats and monkeys to birds, otters, and insects.

🌊 Below the waterline, the tangle of roots offer a safe and food-rich habitat for species like snails, oysters, and anemones as well as crocodiles, terrapins, and turtles.
