Rad Dad Wrestling History - Episode 13

Did you know that the WWE Championship was created 10 years into the company's existence?

This is Rad Dad Wrestling History!

In early 1963, the World Wide Wrestling Federation's top star, the original "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers, lost the NWA World's Heavyweight Championship.

WWWF then succeeded from the National Wrestling Alliance in retaliation.

Promoter Vince McMahon Sr. disputed the NWA Title loss because it was in a One Fall Match.

Most NWA Championship Matches were Two out of Three Falls at the time.

The WWWF quickly crowned their own World Heavyweight Champion when Buddy Rogers won a title tournament in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

WWE currently recognizes Buddy Rogers' title reign to have started on April 25th, 1963.

Buddy Rogers then lost the title 21 days later to Bruno Sammartino in Madison Square Garden on May 17th.

Despite it also being a One Fall Match, this time promoter Vince McMahon Sr. did not dispute the title change.
