Brooks High School is fired up to announce Mike Horton as the next Head Coach of Brooks Lions Football!

Coach Horton brings passion, toughness, energy, and a championship mindset to the Lions program. A former offensive lineman at University of North Alabama from 2005-2009, Coach Horton knows what it takes to compete at a high level and build a winning culture through hard work, discipline, and accountability.

Coach Horton spent 11 seasons at Florence High School, including 10 years as offensive line coach and one season coaching outside linebackers. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for developing physical, disciplined football teams and investing deeply in the lives of his players.

For the past four seasons, Coach Horton has served as Offensive Coordinator at Brooks High School, helping lead one of the area’s most explosive offenses. Under his leadership, the Lions averaged 36, 40, 37, and 33 points per game while helping multiple student-athletes earn opportunities to continue their football careers at the collegiate level.

More than wins and points, Coach Horton is passionate about developing young men, building relationships, and creating a culture that the Brooks community can be proud of. His vision, leadership, and love for Brooks make him the right man to lead this program into the future.

Please join us in welcoming Coach Mike Horton, his wife Jenny, and their daughters Maylen, Maggie, and Millie as the new First Family of Brooks Lions Football!

The future is bright. Go Lions!

Center Star Fire District would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Senator Tim Melson and Representative Ben Harrison for their funding support that allowed our department to purchase two new FLIR K2 Thermal Imaging Cameras.
These cameras will greatly enhance our abilities on calls. Equipment like this is a vital tool that helps us better protect both our firefighters and the citizens we serve.
We would also like to thank Philip Williams with RESCUE1 for his assistance throughout the purchasing process and for helping make this possible.
We truly appreciate the continued support of our department and our community. 🚒🔥

April 27, 2011 — a day Alabama will never forget.
Today we pause to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the communities that were torn apart during the devastating tornado outbreak that swept across our state. It’s hard to put into words the scale of destruction and heartbreak that day brought, but it’s just as important to remember the strength that rose from it.
Many of us remember exactly where we were that day — the calls that kept coming, the long hours, the destruction that seemed endless. We also remember the strength that followed. Neighbors helping neighbors, departments standing side by side, and communities coming together in ways we will never forget.
We remember the first responders who ran toward danger, the neighbors who became family, and the countless acts of courage and kindness that followed in the days, weeks, and months after. In the face of unimaginable loss, Alabama stood together — and that spirit still lives on today.
To those we lost: you are not forgotten.
To the survivors: your strength continues to inspire.
To everyone who answered the call: thank you.
Hold your loved ones a little closer today. Remember where you were, honor those affected, and never take a single day for granted.

🚨❄️ SLIP ‘N SLIDE SEASON HAS ARRIVED ❄️🚨
Folks, Mother Nature hit the “ice” button hard. At this time all roads are iced over and basically auditioning for Disney on Ice — which means they are impassable and unsafe.
If you don’t have to go out, don’t. Your car may think it’s a sled, but we promise it’s not built for that sport. 😅
Unless it’s an emergency, STAY OFF THE ROADS. We’re already seeing dangerous conditions and it doesn’t take much speed to lose control.
If you absolutely must travel, crawl, not cruise, and give emergency crews plenty of room to work.
We’d much rather see you safe at home than sliding into our call list.
Stay smart. Stay warm. Stay put.
