The WVA Council has selected the theme “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health” to highlight the systemic role of veterinary services in safeguarding food safety, food security, public health, and animal health worldwide.

From farm to fork, veterinarians are at the frontline of ensuring that food of animal origin is safe, nutritious, and responsibly produced. Their work protects consumers, supports sustainable food systems, prevents zoonotic diseases, and strengthens global health security.

The 2026 theme recognises that global food systems are increasingly interconnected and exposed to emerging disease threats, climate-related pressures, antimicrobial resistance, and economic volatility. In this context, veterinarians act not only as animal health professionals, but as essential actors in health security, sustainable food systems, and economic resilience/sustainability. World Veterinary Day 2026 aims to elevate public understanding and policy recognition of veterinary services as a cornerstone of sustainable and secure food systems.

We are proud of our collegues on the frontline!

We are incredibly proud to recognize Dr. Karen Hook as our Employee of the Month! Dr. Hook was unanimously nominated for her remarkable dedication to our patients and the team. On a day she was already fully scheduled for surgeries, another doctor had to leave unexpectedly to handle an urgent matter. Rather than finishing her procedures and heading home, Dr. Hook stayed late to see all of the other doctor’s remaining appointments. Her selflessness ensured that every patient received the care they needed that day and saved many of our clients from having to reschedule their visits.

Dr. Hook’s journey in medicine began in the small towns of Montana and Eastern Washington, where she was active in 4-H, FBLA, hiking, and horseback riding. She knew early on that veterinary medicine was her calling, as it perfectly blended her love for problem-solving and surgery with her desire to support people who love animals. After graduating from the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990, she practiced in several locations before joining the Mountain View Veterinary Hospital family in 2001.

When she isn’t at the hospital, Dr. Hook is an avid quilter and a brave kayaker—she even completed a 100-mile trip on the Washington coast from Neah Bay to Kalaloch! At home, she is happily owned by her cat, Mischief, her two dogs, Mina and Rosie, and her brand-new Doberman puppy, Figaro. Thank you, Dr. Hook, for your decades of expertise and for always going above and beyond for our "family" here at Mountain View!
