THE founding member of Built From Ruin, but don't tell the other guys I said that. I pretend that I can play guitar and some people believe me. I sing when I feel like it and scream constantly, just mostly on the inside. I first started learning about music at the tender age of 3, and started actually appreciating music when I was 13. My first love was the piano, but I quickly realized that my fat fingers would never be able to play like Mozart, so I gave up. I later took a rather vested interest in jazz trumpet, and played that for years before being forced into playing concert band by the American education system. When I was a young boy, and by that, I mean 14, I picked up guitar and started trying to force my fingers into the things I couldn't be bothered to do on Piano. Shortly before leaving high school, I got it into my head that I wanted to gather a team of gifted individuals and become the X-m… I mean, make a band. The first band I put together was a little group known as Renegades On Crusade. You thought I was gonna say Metallica, didn’t you? It’s ok, you don’t have to lie to me. ROC found moderate success from the humble dominion of our drummer's wood shed, but we were young, silly, and distracted by the fumes: gas fumes and perfumes. This first venture sadly ended in failure when our drummer, Joelseph, left to go and join a new band with some long-haired hippie. Eventually, I was invited to this most exclusive of groups, which was called Beware the Brutality, but I won't blame you if you haven't heard of this particular project, as certain members didn't think we were ready. Eventually, I was asked not to return to this group after taking time out following a family tragedy. Isn't that fun? But, it led me to some dark places; places that enabled me to harness the dark edge inside my soul and write some of the best music I ever wrote. But it was a lonely journey, and one I didn't enjoy, so I decided the time had come to make one last attempt to forge a Master Band to change the face of music forever. I reached out to Joelseph once more, since he was the best (and only) drummer I knew. I talked with that long-haired hippie from Beware the Brutality, who I came to learn was named Kyle. I also learned that he was not, in fact, a hippie. Together, we laid the groundwork for what would come to be known as Built From Ruin. We went through several lineup changes before settling on our current bass player, Jeramy.
Many people ask what my primary musical influences are; namely, my band mates. Since they all included their influences in their “meet the band” posts, they said that I'm legally obligated to include mine as well. So buckle up and brace yourself. My musical influences include such artists as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Cradle of Filth, Jorge Rivera-Herrans, Wind Rose, Iron Maiden, Daddyphatsnaps, Avenged Sevenfold, Masayoshi Soken, and my fellow members of Built From Ruin. If you recognized all the artists in that list, we are now officially friends.
