Survivors of sexual assault deserve to be met with expertise and compassion the moment they come forward. That's why I authored HB1247, now Act 724, creating a statewide Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Coordinator for Louisiana, a bill I am especially proud of.

Specially trained SANE nurses make a real difference in how survivors are cared for and how strong the evidence is if a case moves forward. This coordinator role will help ensure that level of care reaches survivors in every parish.

This session, I also worked alongside my colleagues on additional legislation to expand support and justice for survivors, from empowerment resources to stronger protections under the law.

Protecting our children and supporting our Louisiana families isn't just policy to me, it's personal.

This session, I authored HB246, strengthening accountability for the agencies entrusted with our kids' wellbeing, and HB1052, protecting the confidentiality of sensitive information handled by child advocacy centers so families in their hardest moments know their stories are safe.

I was also proud to co-author a number of bills this session focused on protecting children and supporting families in Louisiana.

Over the next few days, I'll be sharing more of the legislation I fought for this session and why each one mattered to me. Stay tuned for more!

Senator Larry Selders will be greatly missed. While I did not get to know him well, I can easily say he led with kindness, generosity, and grace. Prayers and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

JUST IN: Louisiana State Senator Larry Selders has died.

As a fellow Lafayette native, I have watched and admired Liz Murrill serve our state with integrity since day one as our Attorney General. The charges brought against her this week were nothing short of a political attack, and I am grateful the Louisiana Supreme Court saw right through it and granted a stay so quickly.

Liz has spent her career defending Louisiana families and holding true to the rule of law. She doesn't deserve to have her name dragged through a process built on procedural defects and political motives. Lafayette is proud to call her one of our own, and I stand with her as she continues this fight and continues doing the job she was elected to do.

Conversation leading to a shared vision from the state to the local level is a winning strategy. Grateful to Governor Landry’s staff, James Lee and Connor Domangue, for visiting the great work our local leaders, Kim Boudreaux and Ben Broussard with Catholic Charities of Acadiana, are doing to address the needs of our community members who have no place to call home.

School security is something we all have a vested interest in. Keeping our students, teachers, and staff safe is top of mind.

Thank you to Paul Toups with Louisiana State Police, other law enforcement agencies, and Asst. Superintendent Jennifer Gardner, along with other school district officials, for the opportunity yesterday to learn key solutions and systems on this critical need.
