Gerard Basil Studio

The outline of this piece came from a ‘drop’ while creating a larger sculpture. It’s been in the studio for two years asking to be made into something. I made it with no base, just the object itself as the art. There’s no front or back, top or bottom. This has been a great study and exercise in form and a new series of stand alone sculptures. I’m looking forward to getting them finished.

I’m a part of this unique exhibit showing art from artist with public art installations in the city of Brea. A 50 year dialogue with art, the community and artists. Come down and see new and different works.

So, I’m cleaning out my garage and have come across some gems. These are a couple of shots of my very first true welding project for the Bill Whitten boutique that opened back in 1990. I designed, fabricated and installed all of fixtures. Quite a bit of it was learning on the job. I was Bill’s assistant for several years before he opened the shop. To think now of the trust he had in me to create all of this was insane. I was only 25! Some of Bill’s clients at the time were the biggest names in music. Michael Jackson, Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers and the list went on.. Cool trip down memory lane!
