Gratitude of meeting Brian & Joyce… that one time we worshipped in the bakery with Brian Doerksen

There are moments in life that leave an imprint on your heart forever.

Meeting Brian Doerksen and his beautiful bride, Joyce, was one of those moments.

To say it was an honor doesn’t even begin to describe what we felt. Here was a man whose songs have carried countless people through seasons of worship, joy, sorrow, healing, and hope. His gift of songwriting became the soundtrack of faith for so many around the world. Songs like Come, Now Is the Time to Worship will continue to point hearts to Jesus for generations to come.

Yesterday, on our 4-year anniversary at Papi’s Ohana, we learned that Brian had gone home to be with the Lord. Our hearts are grieving alongside Joyce, their family, and the countless lives he touched.

What makes today even more emotional is that it also marks the day Chef’s twin brother entered Heaven a few weeks before the Lahaina fires.

As I sit here reflecting, I can’t help but smile through the tears, imagining the two of them exchanging stories in the presence of our Savior… where worship never ends, every tear has been wiped away, and every promise has been fulfilled. 🥹

Brian, thank you for leaving behind a legacy that wasn’t built on stages or applause, but on leading hearts into the presence of God. Your songs will continue to echo through churches, homes, and hearts around the world.

Joyce, thank you for sharing your beloved husband with all of us. We are praying for you and your family, and we will forever cherish the unexpected blessing of welcoming you both into our little bakery.

Four years ago, we opened our doors with a whole lot of faith, and a desire to serve from the heart.

What we never could have imagined was the incredible community that would grow around this little corner of Maui.

To our loyal locals who have stood by us from the beginning… to the families who make us part of every Maui vacation… to those who stop in once a week, once a year, or every single morning… thank you.

We’ve celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, engagements, and “just because” mornings together. We’ve welcomed familiar faces back year after year, watched little keiki grow up, hugged old friends, met new ones, and even reconnected with classmates and loved ones from across the world.

Some of you walked in as strangers… and truly became Ohana.

Thank you for every smile, every hug, every prayer, every encouraging word, and for trusting us to be part of your Maui story.

Here’s to four incredible years… and to many more memories still to come.
