🔌 Did you know a diner and a data center pay the same Consumer Utility Tax in Prince William County?
Currently, all businesses have their energy consumption tax bills capped at $100 per month, regardless of usage. Supervisor Boddye is ready to change that.
Yesterday, he issued a directive to increase the cap for High Energy Use Facilities like data centers. His proposal would maintain the low cap for businesses using less than 5 megawatts a month and eliminate the tax completely for households.
“Raising the Consumer Utility Tax cap for data centers recognizes the reality of today’s energy demands, allowing us to cut costs for households, keep local businesses competitive, and encourage energy efficiency,” said Boddye.
Boddye directed staff to study the changes and report back to the Board in September.
