One of the hardest things I’ve realized in my doula journey is that it is simply not considered a necessity by health insurance companies and plans but a luxury item. So I constantly have to dance between knowing the value of having a doula and fighting for the value$$$ that I need to continue to do this work!
If we take a moment and consider the financial costs of having a baby in todays society and compare it to the research that speaks to what having a doula is doing to cesarean, preterm birth, and postpartum health outcomes, then one would think it should be a NEED!
Have you checked with your insurance carrier to see if they will cover or reimburse your doula support?
