As storm activity increases, the Department of Public Safety reminds residents to use 9‑1‑1 only for life‑threatening emergencies so call‑takers remain available for critical situations.
Call 9‑1‑1 for Emergencies Dial 9‑1‑1 when there is immediate danger to life, safety, or significant property damage, including:
• Trees or limbs blocking roads and creating hazards
• Downed power lines that are sparking, arcing, burning, or threatening people or structures
• Rising or fast‑moving floodwaters trapping people or vehicles
• Basement flooding causing electrical hazards, collapse risks, or trapping occupants
• Any situation where someone is injured or in danger
If you’re unsure whether it’s dangerous, call 9‑1‑1.
Use the Non‑Emergency Line for Non‑Urgent Issues Call the non‑emergency number for situations that are not an immediate threat:
• Downed trees or limbs not blocking traffic or creating hazards
• Non‑dangerous power outages (also report to your utility provider)
• Minor or contained basement flooding
• Flooded roads already closed or with no one in danger
• Follow‑up questions about previous incidents
For emergencies: Call 9‑1‑1
For non‑urgent matters: Call 717‑664‑1180
For outages: Contact PP&L at 1-800-342-5775 or Ephrata Electric at 717-733-1277

CALLS • PREPLANNING • FIRE PREVENTION • COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
It was another steady week for Witmer Fire. Members responded to calls for service during both daytime and nighttime hours, conducted preplans of new construction homes in our first-due area to better prepare for future emergencies, and visited a local school to promote fire safety, showcase our apparatus, and inspire the next generation of future firefighters.
