Some graves are quiet. Others ask questions. At Lancaster Cemetery stands the life-sized marble statue of Augusta Bitner, a young woman who married, gave birth, and died all within 13 months. Her cause of death was typhoid fever, but the legend is much murkier. Locals say she tripped on her wedding dress and broke her neck. Others believe heartbreak played a role. Her grave asks: “Could love have kept her?” You tell me. This is one of the most quietly haunting places in the city and Augusta’s presence is felt by many. #lancasterpa #lancastercounty #pennsylvania

Date Change:
We are in need of volunteers to help with a project at the neighboring St. Mary's Cemetery on New Holland.

This work is to help The Veteran Stone Project group to map the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery on New Holland.

It is our hope to map the 8 sections, record stone inscriptions, photograph stones, and to locate the veterans buried there.
* For anyone who is less mobile there are research tasks needed as well.
