Trilliums - the stars of the wildflower show at Shenk's Ferry

Trilliums are widely distributed across the Eastern US forests. Most places, if you come across one it is a special treat. I have seen a few places where there are more, a few dozen or so, but I have never seen the abundance that you see at Shenks Ferry in Lancaster County anywhere else. We are talking thousands. I took a number of shots of these beauties, shared below.

Fresh snow in Landis Woods, Neffsville, Pa

I always like the look of new snow on trees and bushes. It has been a while since I got out to shoot some photos when it is available. It didn't snow at all last year and even with several modest snowfalls this winter there are practical obstacles; having to clear my driveway, deck, and walkways, the state of the roads and parking, my own diminished ambition, etc. Yesterday provided an exception. We had 3 or so inches of snow overnite (on top of some remaining snow from earlier in the week) but remarkably my driveway, sidewalks, and the roads were completely clear. As soon as I finished my breakfast I grabbed my camera and headed to Landis Woods, a township park near my house. Here are some images I came home with.

Snow Geese at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area - Northern Lancaster County - Feb 6, afternoon.

It has been a long time since I posted anything: I haven't shot any photos for a while. I was sick most of December and January. Better now and blessed with some sunny days after a very gloomy January I headed out to Middle Creek. I have photographed the migrating geese that congregate there many times before but it doesn't get old. There were a few thousand geese on hand when I first arrived aroud 4:00, fewer than the huge peaks in some past years, but still worthwhile. Here are some images. More tomorrow of other waterfowl and nice afternoon light.
