Me: Now let your hair down, lean forward, and shake it out for volume. No, more than that. Go big. Think Merida from Brave.

Guns Save Lives
My last photoshoot of 2023 started mostly impromptu and turned into a speed drill. When I found out was going to be in the area for some work at a local studio, I asked if she wanted to swing by and shoot. She did, and when discussing ideas, she pointed out that the last shoot we did with 3d-printed fi****ms turned into a favorite with her followers, so she wanted to do similar again. Initially we wanted to try to recreate a meme with a Disney princess shooting a subgun from the hip, but I was having issues getting my high speed gear to play, and she was a little too b***y for the wardrobe options I had in the closet, so we just went with an editorial style.
I'd wanted to shoot a little earlier in the day and use strobes to tone down the environment, but we ended up not shooting until roughly 20 minutes before sunset. From the first frame snapped to the last frame snapped, only 32 minutes elapsed. This included a sprint to the house for a different set of battery strobes when the first failed after three shots, three and a half wardrobe looks, and 166 shots fired with 30 social-media grade keepers. This was one of my favorites, and is probably going to be printed and hung over my gun safe for sh*ts and gigges.

Photography (and model if interested!) friends!
If you haven't thought about (or didn't know about) attending ImagingUSA in January, we're six weeks out, and you can consider this my attempt to convince you.
Of all the photography-related shows, fairs, conventions, whatever that I like to go to, this is THE BIG ONE. The main event is Jan 28-30, with add-on classes Jan 25-27, and there's some good stuff on the schedule this year. I still remember how mind-blown I was the first time I went.
It's going to be in Louisville, KY this year (Grapevine, TX next year if you prefer 13 months to plan). Follow the link to learn all about it, plus if you're sharp-eyed, you can see me (and a bunch of other fine folks from Virginia) in the intro clip with the crowd of people waving at the camera. I don't get any kickbacks from posting the link or convincing you to go, I'm just a big fan of sharing opportunities for networking and education.
Oh, and stay tuned for another post where I try to convince you to come check out our annual state event in Glen Allen in March!
Home Imaging USA is the premier photography conference, trade show, and exhibit in the USA, attracting 10,000 professional photographers each year.
