Yesterday, I was interviewed by WXYZ-TV Channel 7 News about the recent deaths of 2 women at Huron Valley (the state’s only women's prison facility) πŸ’”

I have had countless calls from constituents and concerned citizens (inside and outside the facility) about the conditions at Women's Huron Valley. I've toured and visited the facility, spoke to the women in there including Krystal Clark and others. I've sat down and had numerous meetings with MDOC Director Heidi Washington and her administration.

It's been years of neglect and I can't tell you how we are all fed up with the inaction of MDOC.

So we as legislators are standing with the community and calling for Director Washington to resign, as well as to close Huron Valley and move those women somewhere else for their safety & the safety of all people who have to work and visit there πŸ™πŸΎ

Good morning everyone & Happy Friday 🌞

Yesterday, I was interviewed by CBS Detroit at the Capitol discussing the House Republicans plan to cut property taxes without raising any revenue to replace those dollars.

I said I support a property tax cut, however their plan is completely irresponsible because the state of Michigan is already in a $2 Billion deficit due to the "One Big Ugly Bill" that DC Republicans passed last year making major cuts to our healthcare, food assistance, and other programs.

As currently written, this Republican plan will not only add to the deficit, but bankrupt our schools, local governments, as well as funding for infrastructure, roads and so much more.

Also, I spoke out on the front steps of the Captiol Building rallying and calling on the state to finally FULLY FUND HOME CARE πŸ‘πŸΎ

P.S. Shout out to SEIU & our Home Care workers as they negotiate for a fair contract with living wages and benefits for those workers who take care of our most vulnerable loved ones πŸ’™
