Take Back Michigan

Today I submitted a new bill, which was given the number HB 5192. It's a bill that would stop local governments from hiring lobbyists. There are a few good lobbyists, but often they are experts who know how to steer legislation and use the system for their paying clients. There's no easy way to limit their influence without stopping the ability of citizens from also influencing the legislative process. But this situation, which is 'taxpayer funded lobbying' where governments are lobbying for more government and higher taxes, is bad and wrong and we can outlaw it.

The lobby is primarily leftists, though there are a few Republicans. Lobbyists give a lot of campaign donations, and while I don't think they 'buy' legislators, let's also acknowledge it's not a good look. And their default beliefs are to expand government, grow state budgets, and increase the power of government over your business and personal life.

Your township and County government should not be hiring lobbyists. They should get legislative updates from their elected officials and associations.
