Maryann Concannon named co-clerk of Green Pastures Quarterly Meeting

The officers of Green Pastures Quarterly Meeting (GPQM) are pleased to announce that Maryann Concannon, of Red Cedar Meeting, has agreed to serve as co-clerk of the Quarter for a two-year term, starting July 1, 2021.

Maryann is a recorded member of Red Cedar (RCF). She has been a member of the RCF Worship and Pastoral Care, Hospitality, and now Adult Religious Education committees. Maryann is active in Lake Erie Year Meeting as RCF representative and has served on LEYM’s Ministry and Nurture Committee for the past year. As a member of Ministry and Nurture, she taught a Bible study course from February to June 2021.

The usual GPQM procedure is to approve new officers at the Annual Meeting in May but Nominating Committee did not have a nominee at that time. As provided by the GPQM bylaws, if a vacancy arises in any position before the Annual Meeting for Business (i.e., next spring), the Nominating Committee shall propose a name of a person to fill the vacancy to the officers for approval. Any person so approved by the officers shall serve in the role until the next business session of the Quarterly Meeting (September 18), at which time “the Quarterly Meeting shall either approve the nomination or make its own appointment to the position.”

Since many Friends are isolated and seeking community as we stay indoors to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, FGC's Spiritual Deepening Program is offering two opportunities to come together online during social distancing

Living into Wholeness: Quaker Commitment to Honoring That of God in Everyone

Our next Spiritual Deepening eRetreat invites you to explore and practice what it means to live into Beloved Community, the ways we are called to recognize patterns of marginalization and exclusion and to act toward justice, and tools for transforming and vitalizing our meetings and communities.

The Living into Wholeness eRetreat will be offered from April 12 - May 11, 2020. Weekly Community Building video calls are scheduled for Mondays at 7pm Eastern, starting April 13, for five weeks. Michele Shields of Honolulu Friends Meeting will be the facilitator for this eRetreat

What Canst Thou Say? - Spiritual Inquiry Grounded in Worship Sharing
Offering a new twist to the eRetreat format, What Canst Thou Say will foster spiritual community through a focus on worship sharing around the Bible and the Quaker tradition, using passages from texts by Friends (and others) and the Bible verses that informed them. This will be a work-in-progress, so each week may be different from previous ones. No experience with the Bible or Quaker history is necessary. Everyone is welcome.

What Canst Thou Say will meet weekly on Saturdays starting April 11 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm ET via Zoom for worship, worship sharing, and spiritual exploration. Friends and spiritual sojourners Mark Wutka and Mary Linda McKinney will facilitate our sessions each week.

Reach out to me with any questions you have about our newest opportunities. Though we are in the midst of uncertain times, I am thankful for the comfort and connection of the Quaker community, and to know Friends like you.
