Michigan National Guard
Welcome to the Michigan National Guard official page for the Army and Air National Guard. This is the Michigan National Guard official page.
On June 6, 1944, Allied forces launched Operation Overlord, the largest amphibious invasion in history, storming the beaches of Normandy, France, to begin the push that would ultimately lead to victory in Europe.
Today, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of all who took part in this pivotal moment of World War II.
Michigan units played a vital role in the success of D-Day. The 107th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron provided aerial reconnaissance and close air support for maneuver echelons on the ground.
On the ground, the 107th Engineer Combat Battalion, part of the 254th Engineer Battalion, supported the 29th Infantry Division by clearing mines, repairing roads, and building bridges under combat conditions.
We remember their courage and contributions that helped shape the course of history.
