We are developing a trauma-informed questionnaire to better understand the incidence of sexual violence in elite sport.
The purpose of this research study is to develop items for a trauma-informed questionnaire aimed at identifying the incidence of sexual violence in elite sport.
The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) Collaborative Research Network (CRN) will collaborate with The Athlete Survivors’ Assist (The Assist) on this research project.
Former elite athletes (18+), who have experienced sexual abuse or sexual harassment by a person in power while participating in elite sport, are invited to participate in a 45-minute interview or 1-hour focus group conducted via Zoom.
Participants will be assigned a pseudonym and the interviews and focus groups will be completed anonymously.

As the World Cup brings athletes onto the global stage, we recognize the work it takes to get there. The early mornings, the setbacks, the discipline no one sees, and the people who helped them keep going.
Moments like this show why sport matters. It connects people, builds pride, and means something far beyond the field.
And it's a reminder that every athlete, at every level, deserves to experience sport that way, with safety, dignity, and care. As the World Cup brings athletes onto the global stage, we recognize the work it takes to get there. The early mornings, the setbacks, the discipline no one sees, and the people who helped them keep going.
