These themes came together in a meaningful way at the Council for Affordable and Rural Housing (CARH) Annual Meeting and Legislative Conference, where the CARH Scholarship Foundation named one of its 2026 scholarships in honor of our CEO Mark McDaniel, recognizing his decades-long commitment to expanding access to affordable housing and creating pathways to opportunity.

The inaugural scholarship recipient, Hayden Nance, shared how affordable housing provided the stability that helped him focus on school, pursue his goals, and prepare for college. His story is a powerful example of why our work matters—and why we believe housing and education go hand in hand.

Congratulations to Hayden and all of this year's scholarship recipients. Their stories remind us that investing in affordable housing is also an investment in education, opportunity, and the next generation of leaders. For Jennifer Everhart, last week's Minock Park grand opening felt like coming home. 🏡

As part of receiving the Duvernay Award, Jennifer was given the opportunity to direct a $5,000 charitable donation to the nonprofit of her choice. She selected Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation (GRDC), which serves the Detroit neighborhood where she grew up, Grandmont #1. During the grand opening celebration, Jennifer presented the donation to Michael Randall, MUP, making it a full circle moment.
