The US National Weather Service Grand Rapids Michigan has issued the following update on the continued heatwave and forecast through Friday.

🔥Heat Continues: Today: Highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s with max heat index readings in the mid 90s to low 100s. Friday: Highs mainly 85 to 90 with max heat index readings in the low to mid 90s (upper 90s for I-94)

🌩️Scattered Thunderstorms Possible Tonight, Then Again Later Friday
Dry weather favored through this afternoon with scattered thunderstorms possible later tonight. Main timeframe for development is 10pm tonight through 6am Friday. Localized damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or greater are the main threat. Scattered thunderstorms may develop Friday evening into Friday night; low confidence in timing and location.

• Provide plenty of fresh, cool water
• Keep pets indoors or in shaded areas whenever possible
• Avoid walks during the hottest parts of the day and make sure to avoid hot surfaces like asphalt or hot concrete
• Never leave a pet in a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes
• Watch for signs of heat stress, including excessive panting, lethargy, or difficulty breathing
